Synopsis[]
As Allison delves into the inner sanctum of Yre, Zoss appears behind her, warning her of the consequences of seeking absolute, selfish power, but she haughtily rejects his cryptic advice and wades into a flooded tunnel. As she dives through the water, Moral-Allison finds a way to unite the strengths of all the weaker aspects of her personality and self to oppose Power-Allison. The latter, empowered by the fragment of Incubus' Key of Kings, scoffs at the idea of being defeated by this new side of Allison's mind, but the two don't get to fight - Moral-Allison kisses and embraces Power-Allison, and the true Allison awakes as she surfaces into Ynamon, the Great Vault of Yre.
With her return to her senses, Allison loses the unconscious control over her wounds in arms and legs, and starts to shakily explore the gold-filled landscape in search of Mammon. Terrified, she tries to attack him, but instead runs into a group of little children who bear flowers and an incensary as part of a great procession of Priests of the Count that follow the Grand Dragon as he attempts to count all the coins in his hoard.
Noticing the disruption, the senile monster focuses his rheumy gaze on Allison - then demands an apology. Satisfied with Allison's terrified answer, Mammon then tells her to wait until he's finished counting his hoard, but noticing Allison's despair, assumes she wanted to slay him and promptly lies down, telling her to try her best. He claims to deserve it, as he had pushed away his many brothers and then had them killed.
His Emissary, 000001, gently puts him to rest, and faces Allison, explaining Ynamon is a sanctuary where the Priests of the Count protect Mammon, and demanding to know why she should spare her from death. Before Allison can explain her wish to find Zaid, Cio barges in, nearly transformed back into Yabalchoath, and throws her former friend into the ground. Allison promptly apologizes for her past actions, but Yabalchoath slashes her face with her talons and throws her weak body against a pillar, then swiftly stabs her with her black short sword.
Realizing her murderous relapse, Cio returns to her old self and begins to cry, but a battered Allison (who had survived thanks to the sword getting stuck in Cio's old book) stops her. Calling it even for having left her trapped in the rubble to die, the two kiss. Cio tries to apologize for her advances, but Allison forbids it - then faints from her blood loss.
000001 threatens to kill Cio, but Mammon interrupts her and demands a return to the Count. Therefore, the Emissary tells the Blue Devil to flee, for she will be hunted down as soon as Mammon is far enough away to be unaware of the Priest's retribution. Cio takes her chances and asks for the whereabouts of Zaid, and 000001 reveals he was sold away to preserve the peace enjoyed by the inhabitants of Yre.
As the procession resumes, however, the Palace of Radiance crashes through the impossible walls of the vault, with Nadia Om at the front of the floating edifice turned into a burning wrecking ball, demanding to know where Allison is. Outside of the Tower of Yre, in Throne, the Pursuers have assembled to search for her too.
