Synopsis[]
Soon after the defeat of the Golden Pearl Pleasure Guild, White Chain and Allison bring their prisoner Omun Vash on a Prime Angel "bus" to the Spires district of The Red City. Allison exults in knowing her training is paying off, but her Angel master insists on keeping her pride in check - she is too impetuous and reliant on her Key of Kings - but nonetheless her progress in the difficult martial arts of the Aeons has made White Chain proud of her. Allison happily remarks she has actually smiled, promptly pushing White Chain to close up her emotions again.
When they finally reach the Judicator Tower where they're taking Vash, Allison comments White Chain looks more relaxed and happier, which meets her master's rebuff, clinging to the old definitions of the static and unchanging nature of Angels. Before the debate can go on, both reach the end of the tower's stone bridge, where the Root Knights 36 Will Not Give Ground to Sinners and 47 Sound of a Hammer Striking Steel await the delivery of their prisoner.
When Sound of a Hammer remarks this is not the first time the Goblin mobster has been imprisoned before, since Throne's judiciary system is broken and corrupt, Allison protests that all their efforts have been in vain. White Chain intercedes for her, introducing Allison as her apprentice, to which the other Angels respond with dismissal - Will Not Give Ground states that training humans is a waste, and Sound of a Hammer advises White Chain to return to the Void with 2 Michael and the other Aeons who wish to wait out the end of the Wheel.
White Chain responds to Allison's seething anger at their attitude (not just about retreating from the world, but also insisting on referring to White Chain as "brother") with reassurances that they did the right thing, and that she won't leave her behind. However, Allison insists that she is better than them, and that she does look good in a dress. While reminiscing Michael's orders to restore the Successor to the throne, even killing Allison if necessary, White Chain repeats her need to stay true to the Old Law and do what is right, in order to not lose herself, and shuts down the discussion to proceed with Allison's training.
Meanwhile, the two Root Knights descend to their tower with their new prisoner. Sound of a Hammer tells Will Not Give Ground to show sympathy for White Chain, describing her as the most ardent student of 2 Michael and the Angel that has died the most times in defence of Throne, and dismissing the accusations of insanity some have directed at her for his admiration of her tenacity. Just as he intones her original name, an unknown Angel awakens in his body inside the tower.
