Zaid[2] Nazari is a human who was Allison's short-term boyfriend before the comic's beginning. After being abducted by a group of Thorn Knights, Zaid was recaptured by Jagganoth and taken to the Concordance of the Demiurges for questioning.

Appearance

Zaid is a middle-eastern[3] man of light brown hair and average build. He normally wears a leather jacket imprinted with a cobra, even while indoors, and those who know him seem to think he has a bad influence on Allison.[2]

After being groomed in the Celestial Empire, Zaid was seen wearing the garb of Solomon's realm, and sporting a short beard, which he apparently grew while there.[4]

After the battle between the demiurges on Rayuba and the three-year time skip, Zaid became significantly more muscular and grew out his hair. He also had two pairs of swords on his back, and while rescuing Allison, wore a white mask with one eye hole. When Allison returned to the group after training with Meti, Zaid had also grown out his beard and wore a white shirt and pants.

Abilities

Zaid was supposed to be (and according to Jagganoth, has been) Zoss's heir. Although for much of the comic he had no special abilities due to being kept in the care of one demiurge or another, during the timeskip after Jagganoth's attack on Rayuba, Zaid became a skilled swordsman. Besides being able to take out Jadis's guards with his talents, he was also shown as being able to command his blue-hilted sword to levitate and fly on his command (either by speaking or whistling), as well as ride it like a hoverboard.

History

Earth

Zaid is first seen attempting to have sex with his girlfriend Allison. But before they can proceed, Zoss[5] appears and reveals a Key of Kings. A struggle soon follows and Zaid is captured by a Thorn Knight horde.[6]

The void

As they travel, the raiding party is intercepted by Jagganoth, who discovers that the knights were travelling through Mottom's territory.[7] Zaid, who has been knocked unconscious, is taken to the void where Jagganoth calls a conference to address the issue.[8] Tensions rise between the Seven, but Jadis suddenly begins divining a prophecy and it is interpreted to mean Zaid will be next successor to Throne.[7]

Yre[]

After the concordance of the demiurges, it was decided to bring the unconscious Zaid to the Treasure Fortress of Yre with Mammon to guard him - by tenuous agreement[9]. After Mottom later tells Allison of that decision, she decides to break into the Fortress with a gang of devils. The raid is not successful in regards of freeing Zaid, however, because the boy had already been bought for a fair price[10] by Solomon David[11].

Celestial Empire[]

Solomon had Zaid brought to one of his worlds, where he roughly told him about the prophecy regarding him, but not making any commitments towards letting Zaid take any position yet.[4]

At the end of the tournament, Zaid finally meets up again with Allison, sharing a tearful reunion. As they catch up with one another, he apologizes for the awkward situation he had left her in and appears sincerely grateful that she would still come for him. Later, when White Chain makes her declaration to Solomon for him to step down, Zaid is shown having changed as well, sporting a halo of holy fire of his own, albeit smaller than the others.

Trivia

  • "Zaid" is a name of Arabic origin, meaning "straight edge". This seems to be ironic, given his rebellious image and the fact that others disapprove of him.
